Lined with beautiful, old oak trees, Ocean Springs downtown is the center of the city's vibrant and artistic lifestyle. The oak trees in Ocean Springs is unique to the city's character and, along with the long-standing title of "the City of Discovery", it has earned the additional nickname of "Tree City".

There are three main entertainment and downtown communities in Ocean Springs - Fort Bayou, Porter Avenue, and Downtown. The historic downtown is home to a number of locally owned and independent shops, restaurants, cafes, galleries, and more. It is an inviting and walkable center that, despite being in a thriving city, feels like a secluded and quaint community.

Ocean Springs Art & Music

The arts are the foundation of Ocean Springs. It is well known for its galleries, festivals, and events that celebrate local arts and music. It is a huge contributor to the city's economy and a huge draw for visitors and residents.

There are a number of artistic attractions in Ocean Springs. The Ocean Springs Art Association, formed in 1971, represents over 300 local artistic and promotes "friendship and good fellowship among those people engaged in the visual arts". Residents of Ocean Springs, and surrounding Gulf Coast communities, can become members of this association. The largest arts festival in Mississippi takes place in Ocean Springs - Peter Anderson Arts & Craft Festival. This festival celebrates local artists - potters, painters, musicians - beginning in August and ending with a two-day event in early November. Other popular Ocean Springs museums include the Walter Anderson Museum of Arts and the Mary O'Keefe Cultural Center.

Ocean Springs Outdoor Exploration

Being on the Gulf Coast, Ocean Springs has gorgeous waterfront views of the Gulf of Mexico. There are a variety of parks and beaches that are perfect for outdoor exploration, as well as relaxing on weekends and vacations.

The Davis Bayou Area of the Gulf Island Nation Park has a two-mile trail that takes you through coastal forests and bayous. Nights out and eating at one of the local eateries in Ocean Springs is an event! The city has a fusion of cuisine influences from classic Southern BBQ and fresh seafood to fusions of international influences. The Shed BBQ is known for some of the best pulled pork in the area. Aunt Jenny's Catfish Restuarant serves up all you can eat catfish, a Southern staple. For delicious coffee and biscuits, The Green House on Porter gathers the community together to celebrate local music and great bites in their eclectic space.
